We get asked about phone insurance all the time, so we’ve put together clear answers to the most common questions — from what’s covered to how claims work. Everything you need to know about phone insurance is right here.

General Questions

Yes. A manufacturer’s warranty only covers faults and breakdowns. Phone insurance protects against accidental damage, cracked screens, liquid damage, theft, and—if you choose Full Cover—loss.

Essential Cover: accidental damage, cracked screens, liquid damage, theft, use abroad, and cover for immediate family who live with you.
Full Cover: everything in Essential, plus protection if your phone is lost.

Full details are set out in our Policy Documents. Some people call this mobile phone insurance — we keep things simple and just say phone insurance.

Sometimes, but usually with a higher excess. Claims may also affect your home insurance premium. That’s why many people prefer separate phone insurance.

Your Cover

Your policy covers the phone itself, so any immediate family living with you is covered when they use it.

Yes — your phone is protected for up to 90 days each year, whether you’re away for work or leisure.

Yes — up to £1,000 if your phone is lost or stolen. (Loss cover is only included with Full Cover.)

No. Scratches and general wear and tear aren’t covered. But cracked screens, liquid damage, and faults outside warranty are included.

By monthly Direct Debit.

Your first Direct Debit will be collected 7–10 days after your application is processed.

Your policy documents will be emailed to you within 24 hours of your successful application.

Buying Phone Insurance

Yes — if your phone needs replacing, we’ll provide a like-for-like replacement. Just select the correct model and storage size when buying cover.

Yes — if you choose Full Cover.

Yes — if they’re less than 36 months old and bought from a UK VAT-registered retailer or network.

Yes — we insure phones up to 36 months old.

Yes — contract phones are covered.

Yes — as long as it was bought from a VAT-registered UK retailer and is under 36 months old.

No — we don’t cover phones bought from private sellers.

Making a Claim

Log into your account and fill in the online claim form anytime. For help, email claims@wcsinsurance.co.uk.

Proof of purchase showing your phone’s IMEI number.

With the receipt from the retailer or mobile network you bought it from.

Yes — they can block the phone to stop further use.

Yes — within 24 hours. You’ll need a crime reference number for your claim.

Yes — 90 days on repairs, 12 months on replacements.

It’s your phone’s unique ID number. To find it, dial *#06# on your phone.

Yes — if possible. If your exact model isn’t available, we’ll agree on a fair replacement with you.

Yes — the fee depends on your monthly premium and the type of claim:

Please note: all loss claims include an additional £50 excess on top.

You can make unlimited accidental damage claims, and up to 2 theft or loss claims per year.
