Setting a SIM card PIN not only helps prevent thieves from using your SIM in another device, but also stops them from receiving authentication codes, accessing your contacts, or resetting accounts. To ensure your device stays secure, here’s how to enable it on both Android and iPhone devices.
📱 How to Add a SIM Card PIN on Android
1️⃣ Open Settings
Go to Settings > Security & Privacy (or Biometrics & Security on some devices).
Scroll down and select More Security Settings or Advanced Settings (this may vary by device).
2️⃣ Find SIM Lock Settings
Tap SIM card lock or Set up SIM card lock.
3️⃣ Enable SIM Lock
Toggle Lock SIM card to ON.
You’ll be prompted to enter your current SIM PIN.
Default SIM PIN: Some carriers set a default PIN (usually 0000 or 1234). If incorrect, check with your network provider.
4️⃣ Set a New SIM PIN
Tap Change SIM PIN and enter a new 4-8 digit PIN.
Confirm by entering the new PIN again.
✅From now on, whenever your phone restarts or you insert the SIM into another device, it will immediately require the PIN in order to access mobile networks.
📱 How to Add a SIM Card PIN on iPhone
1️⃣ Open Settings
Go to Settings > Mobile Data (or Cellular on some versions).
2️⃣ Find SIM PIN Settings
Tap SIM PIN under the Mobile Data/Cellular settings.
3️⃣ Enable SIM Lock
Toggle SIM PIN to ON.
Enter your current SIM PIN (default is usually 0000 or 1234, check with your carrier if needed).
4️⃣ Set a New SIM PIN
Tap Change PIN, enter a new PIN, and confirm it.
✅ Now, your SIM card will require this PIN whenever the phone is restarted or the SIM is placed into another device.
⚠️ Important Notes:
If you enter the wrong SIM PIN three times, your device locks the SIM, and you must request the PUK (Personal Unlock Key) from your carrier to regain access.
Memorise your SIM PIN or store it in a secure password manager to prevent lockouts.
